Judging compost entryCompost entries were judged by Julia Pollard from WRAP. RecycleNow held a recycling and compost stall next to the compost class table.

The new classes were a huge success, with 18 entries in total for both. Julia commented that the standard was very high and although there was great variety in the nature of the compost, they were all potential winners.

Compost entriesMany people sieved their entries which made them look more "professional" but wasn't necessary to gain a prize.

Garden waste compost gained points for having no discernable items in it, however Julia was delighted to find evidence of egg-shells, seeds and pips in the kitchen and garden waste, proving that it had in fact been kitchen scraps at one point!

Unsuccessful entrants were given hints and tips to improve their compost, although Julia emphasised that all the compost entries could legitimately have been used to improve soil.

Transition Lostwithiel created two spectacular trophies using donated tools and kind assistance from Bodmin College.
