HEALTH & SAFETY

19/05/2009

It has been drawn to our attention that we need a more robust approach to Health and Safety for you all, I am keen to ensure that we do everything we should to keep you all safe while you undertake activities for the CoBRA scheme and so have worked with our H&S team to produce a detailed Risk Assessment.  The Risk Assessment is attached, along with some guidance documents on manual handling and safe driving.  Please do take the time to read them.

I particularly want to draw your attention to the requirement to get the manager of premises where the tube is sited to add the battery tube to their Fire Risk Assessment document, which is used by the Fire Brigade in the event of a fire at the location.  If batteries are involved in a fire they need special handling so it important the Fire Brigade know what they are dealing within the building.

The other thing to note is that I will be ordering in gloves with neoprene palms, these can be used to help you grip the tubes when lifting. These will be issued in due course. I am also seeking guidance on what to do in the unlikely event that your skin comes into contact with a leaking battery. I will issue this as soon as I have it.

I am happy for the documents to evolve with the scheme and to include any additional controls you may think necessary so please send your comments through.
