Seedy Saturdays and Plant Swap

Our annual Seedy Saturdays and weekly Plant & Seed swaps in the summer are a great way to meet keen growers and to get started - even if it's just lettuces on a window sill or a tomato plant on a patio. The Plant & Seed swap is held every Saturday during the summer between 10am and midday at St Bartholomew's churchyard, as long as the weather isn't atrocious.

Get involved with Plant & Seed Swap: if you can help out on the stall every now and again between 10am and midday on Saturdays, we'd love to hear from you. Otherwise just come down and swap your spare plants for something new!

Up for grabs

  • Community garden: All over the country, communities are pooling their efforts to create beautiful and productive communally managed gardens. Check out other community gardens in the South West. It's a great way for new people to learn about gardening, and for more experienced people to get access to willing volunteers to do the hard digging! There are funds and grants available for this kind of project if you're up for it. Is there any interest in creating one, or are you already part of a shared garden?

  • Landshare initiative: Landshare registers and identifies people who have gardens which are too big, or who need help to manage them, and matches them with people who are eager to garden but have no or little land. Find out more about Landshare and registering as a veg doctor.

  • Apprentice Gardeners: Some of the excellent gardeners in Lostwithiel who've been gardening for a long time could take on apprentice gardeners, give them a tour of their garden and top growing tips. There could be a local register of gardeners, regular GQT (gardeners' question time) or plant surgeries.
