CAN LOSTWITHIEL AND DISTRICT FEED ITSELF?
The Lostwithiel Forum Development Trust held the first of its public meetings in partnership with Transition Lostwithiel and the Eden Project. The meeting included presentations and discussions studying the food self reliance our town and district can achieve based on land availability and how it is used. The following opportunities came out of the meeting.
Allotments at Lanhydrock
I live in Lostwithiel and work for Cornwall Council as a Community Placement Officer with adults with Learning Disabilities. I've recently heard of new allotments at Lanhydrock NT - a couple of plots have been made available for adults with LD to work on and I'm in search of volunteers to work alongside them and provide support. It's an exciting project with over 60 new plots and plans to develop a wildlife garden. The driving force behind it is Mike Seaman - anyone interested in having a plot needs to contact Mike. Anyone interested in volunteering to support small groups of adults with Learning Disabilities to work on the allotment can contact Liz Tootell

Do you want to...
have more growing space?
learn more about gardening?
swap digging for produce?
enjoy a social experience?
join a green gym?
A property in a beautiful setting close to Lostwithiel is looking for people to assist with maintenance of their extensive garden. They already grow a large variety of plants and sell some of their produce, but would benefit from some willing extra pairs of hands.
How would it work?
It's up to you. Benefit from greenhouses and veg beds without the commitment of an allotment? (The site has power and water.) Get a share of produce from an established garden? Enjoy the healthy exercise and social experience? (There's plenty of cups of tea on offer!) Dig for your dinner? Perhaps you've got some suggestions about how it could work... please let us know if so.
