NUTS ABOUT FRUIT

Discussion about how to increase local fruit and nut production and the overall local food strategy for Lostwithiel.

Friday 30th January 7pm, Church Rooms

There was a fantastic turn out for this event, with nearly 100 people packing the Church Rooms to hear a range of talks, sample local apples, apple juice and mulled cider, and find out more about local food production.

The speakers were:

  • Lorely Lloyd from Transition Falmouth
  • Andrew Ormerod from the Eden Project, who spoke about the contemporary possibilities of growing fruit
  • Peter Herring from English Heritage, who spoke about orchard history and archaeology in the Tamar Valley and the value of orchards in the landscape
  • Jim Stephens from Duchy of Cornwall Nursery, who spoke about the importance of a local resource of fruit trees available from Duchy Nursery for gardeners, communities and land owners to grow
  • Ariadne Fern from Plants for a Future, who spoke about the value and health benefits of more unusual fruit
  • Sue Malcom from the Cornwall Beekeepers' Association

Following the talks there was a series of round table discussions, which allowed people to mingle and talk to the speakers directly.
